Following the Tracks of Pope Jan Pawel II.
Karol Wojtyla's Place of Birth and Vestiges of his Education in Krakow
In 1978 the former archbishop of Krakow Karol Jozef Wojtyla was elected to become the first non-Italian Pope in 450 years. With his jovial manner Pope John Paul II. won the hearts of many believers, yet at the same time his rather strict conservative-dogmatic moral doctrine was too strict for many Catholics. During this excursion you will visit Wadowice and the birthplace of the former head of the Roman-Catholic Church, which today houses a museum. In Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, which is a place of pilgrimage that is very dear to pope John Paul II, you will be introduced to the tradition of the famous Passion Plays and the cult around Mary. After lunch you will follow the tracks of the former pope at the various institutions of education he visited in Krakow - here he studied philosophy, literature and theology, was engaged in the student theater of Mieczyslaw Kotlarczyk and was consecrated as bishop in the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow.
